He didn't want to go with iron master because he was afraid that he might not be known his truth and after knowing he would be arrested him....So he refused to go with him...

The peddler knew that the ironmaster had mistaken him for his old regimental comrade. Secondly he had stolen 30 kronor from the crofter .Thus he became quite alarmed .He realised that going to the ironmaster's residence would be like throwing himself voluntarily into the lion's den .So the peddler decline the invitation .
