The peddler was a vagabond but at the ironmasters house he was honoured as captain. Due to Edla's kind behaviour he escaped being caught into the world's rattrap. Kindness and Hospitality shown by Edla towards him moved him completely. This made him feel like a real Captain and so he signed himself as Captain Von Stable.
