The prison contained just seven inmates at the time of its storming, but was seen by the revolutionaries as a symbol of the monarchy's abuses of power; its fall was the flashpoint of the French Revolution.

On 14th July 1789, the news had spread that the king would soon send his troops to open fire on the people. By listening to this news, the people were very afraid. They thus, formed the peoples' militia to attack the Bastille. Bastille was the place where all the weapons of the army were kept. The people destroyed the Bastille in anger. Bastille represented the despotic power of Louis XVI, the king. The stone fragments of the Bastille were sold to people after that day to keep a souvenir of what had happened.

Hope it Helps!! :)
