The poet said this because she found everywhere bloodshed and killing of innocent people and making fun of them, forcing them to do bad for bad and wrong for wrong like how they did. Thus, by seeking these the poet called her homeland, as 'broken land'.

The poet is calling her homeland a broken land because everything is disturbed and falling apart in her homeland.

Explanation:

  • In the poem "Prayer of the meek" the poet is hoping for a favorable situation in her homeland.
  • The poet sees blood-shedding and the massacre of innocent everywhere therefore she is praying and waiting for good things to happen.
  • the people are making fun of her homeland and killing them and forcing them to do bad things.
