the poet went to the dentist because in her childhood she ate many chocolates, sweets eta and when her parents told her to brush her teeth she don't listen to their parents .

The poet had eaten so much of sweets like liquorice , gob stoppers , sarbeth daps etc which had caused her dental cavity .
The poet used to laugh of her mother's false teeth . That is why poet went to the dentist.
She could be avoided it by not eating sweets.
