Why did the poet in poem cold within called the group forlorn?

forlorn means lonely. The poet calls the group forlorn beacuse inspite of being six people present thier, there was no interaction between them. It seemed to be as lonely as it would be when there were no people. Also they had all sorts of prejudices for each other which made their hearts void of any compassion making it as forlorn as the group. That is the reason poet uses two contrasting words forlorn and group together
