Answer: The author thought of never travelling of the first path, as that path was travelled by most of the people and didn't have much challenges. He wanted to do something extraordinary and unique.

The poet took the road less travelled by – which is the other road, because it looked equally attractive, and it 'looked grassy and needed people to walk on it so it would look as worn out or travelled on as the one that he did not choose to go on.
