The poet DH Lawrence treats the snake as a king because he finds its movement similar to that of a king. The way the snake came out of the burning bowels of the Earth and after drinking water it went inside the hole. The moving of the snake into the hole is symbolic of a king moving on his exile. The snake's majestic appearance and its way of completing his purpose without disturbing anyone else made the poet praise about its kingship qualities.
