Why did the price of Blackwood House keep falling?
Answers
In the new development we provide housing with care with a focus on helping people live more independently. Our customers told us they want to have as much control as possible so the technology integrated in the homes can enable people to live in their own home and in their own neighbourhood as opposed to residential care. We feel that people living with a disability have the most to gain from technological advances. Even a wheelchair can be regarded as tech! The technology available can enable a user to live a full and independent life.

Purpose
In the new development we provide housing with care with a focus on helping people live more independently. Our customers told us they want to have as much control as possible so the technology integrated in the homes can enable people to live in their own home and in their own neighbourhood as opposed to residential care. We feel that people living with a disability have the most to gain from technological advances. Even a wheelchair can be regarded as tech! The technology available can enable a user to live a full and independent life.
Features
The homes come equipped with pocket doors - electric doors that slide open and shut at the touch of a button, the feature being that the door disappears into the wall, eliminating the need for reaching for the door and manoeuvring around it.
Electric blinds that can be controlled from an app to suit a range of scenarios are installed in each room.
Underfloor heating throughout and temperature control in each room gives maximum use of space without having radiators affixed to walls.
Solar panels keep the home green and cost effective.
In the kitchen there are rise and fall kitchen surfaces and cupboards, and a rise and fall stove. In previous homes we did not install high level units because they were deemed unreachable for wheelchair users, now the tech enables the storage to come to you.
The fully adapted bathroom with adjustable rise and fall sink also fits any height or equipment as the Pressalit units slide along the wall and lock wherever is comfortable. The versatile, stylish shower is suitable for both disabled and non-disabled users. Also in the bathroom is the Geberit toilet with remote control so a carer can wait outside and control the automatic cleaning system.
An automatic door entry system that operates from a key card has been fitted with an external camera for added security.
Perhaps not seen as high tech, but great thought went in to the design to ensure maximum circulation space was achieved throughout the flat for wheelchair users by constructing the core 'S' model.
CleverCogs Integration
Of course Blackwood’s very own digitally enhanced care system CleverCogs™ was a big focus too as it will play an integral part in the daily home life of the tenant. Programmed to control things like the lights throughout the home, it also means that the tenant receiving care at home can stay in touch with their care provider at the touch of a button and have video calls with them.
The biggest benefit is improved wellbeing. Our customers will live in homes that work for them, homes that they will be proud to live in and homes that were made with their input.
Endorsements
The response to the Blackwood House has been overwhelming; our social media channels went into overdrive! Minister for Local Government and Housing, Kevin Stewart MSP and Councillor Ken Lynne, who chairs the Dundee Health and Social Care Integrated Joint Board, commented that the homes far exceeded their expectations and also quipped “I’ve never been in a house quite like this!” and added “it doesn’t really feel like an adapted house, it feels like a modern, contemporary house.”
Plans are already underway for a new development in Glasgow and we are in discussions with other local authorities.
