Production of handwritten manuscripts did not satisfy the demands for books because:

1. The manuscripts were not easy to maintain and could easily get spoiled whereas the books could be easily maintained.

2. Also, the manuscripts were not uniform in handwriting whereas books were printed and had uniform handwriting.

3. Manuscripts were not sold at uniform prices whereas books were sold to everyone at the same price.
