He believed that by joining the League of Nations, The United States would its authority of declaring war single handedly.
He thought that it was important for the United States to be an independent state in the global spectrum. He thought that US must have the authority of taking its decisions without any interference. United States wanted to expand its territories, which was not easy with being a part of the League of Nations.
