Seeds, when placed in moist soil absorb water, swell up (and those with hard covers or shells swelling cracks the shell), enzymes come alive, the seed germ begins to grow, seed sprouts, and comes up above the soil, sprout develops leaves which begin to turn green, so and so forth.
