The sepoys of the company's army revolted because of a slight modification in the weaponry used by the British East India company's soldiers. The Company had enhanced to the new Pattern 1853 Enfield rifle, which utilized greased paper cartridges and to open up the bags and load guns, the sepoys had to bite the paper with their teeth.

It was rumored that this grease was made from a mixture of beef and pork.  The soldiers who were working in the army were either Hindu or Muslims and for both of them eating beef and pork was forbidden. Thus due to the anger for destroying their religion, sepoys revolted against the Britishers.
