why did the snake thank the poet the poet after drinking water??

It din't thank the Poet because water is not owned by anybody, humans think that everything can only be owned by a single person/people,whereas everything found in nature belong to everyone, whether Man or Animal.

The snake didn't thank the poet after drinking water because the water there was meant for any organism. It was not solely the property of any human or any animal. Since it was one of the common resource provided to all the organisms by nature, therefore the snake went inside its hole after drinking the water. It didn't look back before entering the hole.
