Why did the social reformers came during the British rule and not in the Mughal ?

Because that time rulers like shivaji Maharaj were there for them but during British rule the mughal and Rajput rule ended and Common people were living there as they realized that the British companies are trying to take away there means of living and were increasing taxes for no reason some personalities from those commoners turned up to become social reformers to fight for there freedom
