why did the traders prefer the sea routes to the land routes???

Explanation:

It is far cheaper to move something in bulk on a ship than it is by air. Unless time is a factor. These are the two options available between the different continents. If the aim is to move bulk on the same continent, other means of transportation might prove more economic viable

but this is in old times because they don't have much developed transport systems by land route
