Why did the white man get angry with mara?

• In the chapter "Around a Medicinal Creeper" written by Poornachandra Tejaswi, the white man got angry with Mara because when the white man unwrapped the bandage and removed the leaf, there was no proof of any wound.
• When Mara revealed all the blood on his clothes and body and winced before him saying that he was not telling an untruth, the white man was certain that the leaf had medicinal properties and thus had remedied the wound.
• Accordingly, he asked Mara to show him the plant from which he had grabbed that leaf and offered his whole estate in return.
• Still, when Mara failed to reveal the plant even after searching for it for a whole day, the white man thought that Mara was so cheap that he was not fulfilled the request he had made. He got angry and threatened to shoot him.
