Trade involves exchange of goods freely, and successful trade means flow of goods is properly balanced. In the case of India and Britain, the trade-balance was not just improper, it was just ‘off’ because the very earliest of the goods to be ‘exchanged’ was ‘freedom (of India)’ and hence instead of growing into a healthy trading setup, it morphed into one of the ugliest forms of oppression, suppression and abuse. This ‘trade’ was never successful because it was not ‘trade’ but organised-loot.
