Why did traditional textile industry of India recieve a setback during colonial period?

British bought raw materials from India, made finished products and sold them in India only. the British machine made good were strong and cheap but Indians goods were comparatively costly and not too strong. Indians good were not able to compete with their cost,and the demand for Indian handmade good was decreased at a high rate and Indian textile market declined
