The Russian army was the largest in the world before wrold war 1. Yet by 1917, the Russia had lost two million soldiers and civilians became the biggest loser of human livesin world war 1. The diversion of food to the war front led shortages in cities. On March 8 th 1917 around 10,000 women of the captial St Petersburg,took out a procession demanding peace and bread .Tsar Nicholas 2 ordered the army to supress the demonstrators even by firing on them. Instead the soilders joined the demonstrators .In two days the situation went so much out of hand that Tsar abdicted and non aristocratic Russian made a provisional government
