At first the USA remained neutral in the Second World War. But in September 1940, a Tripartite Pact was signed between Germany, Italy and Japan. So when Japan had extended its support to Hitler and bombed the US Pearl Harbor, the US entered the Second World War.
The war ended with Hitler's defeat in May 1945 and Japan surrendered in August 1945 after the US dropped the atomic bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
