Women accepted the changes in clothing after the First World War because now they had to work in factories. They had to wear comfortable and convenient clothes. They started wearing tops and trousers. They wore shorter skirts. Their clothes were more plain and simple. They did not wear jewellery and luxurious clothes. Even the dress code in schools changed. Gymnastics and games were introduced in schools so girls had to wear clothes that did not hamper movement. Earlier bright colours were worn, but now sober colours were in vogue.
