Voldemort went to kill Harry Potter because Harry filled the requirements of the Prophecy. Voldemort also had the choice of Neville Longbottom, but he chooses Harry to kill because Harry is a Half-Blood, like Voldemort, where as Neville was a Pure-Blood.
