Answer:
The Cabinet Secretariat, which administers the Government of India, is housed in the Secretariat Building, also known as the Central Secretariat. It was built in the 1910s and houses some of the most important ministries of the Indian Cabinet. The Secretariat buildings are two blocks of symmetrical buildings (North Block and South Block) on opposite sides of the great axis of Rajpath, flanking the Rashtrapati Bhavan (President's House) in New Delhi.
Explanation:
The Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of External Affairs are all housed in the South Block.
The North Block is primarily home to the Ministries of Finance and Home Affairs.
After Delhi was designated as the capital of the British Indian Empire in 1911, serious planning for New Delhi began. Lutyens was given charge of town planning and the construction of the Viceroy's House (now Rashtrapati Bhavan); Herbert Baker, who had worked in South Africa for two decades (1892-1912), was assigned as second in command. Baker was tasked with designing the next most important structure, the Secretariat, which was the only structure on Raisina Hill other than the Viceroy's House. As the project progressed, relations between Lutyens and Baker deteriorated; Baker's hill in front of Viceroy's House largely obscured Viceroy's House from view on the Rajpath from India Gate, contrary to Lutyens' intentions; instead, only the top of the hill was visible The dome of Viceroy's House can be seen from a long distance. To avoid this, Lutyens wanted the Secretariat to be lower than the Viceroy's House, but Baker wanted it to be the same height, and it was Baker's intentions that were realized in the end.
After India's capital was relocated to Delhi, a temporary secretariat building was built in North Delhi in a matter of months in 1912. The majority of the new capital's government offices relocated here from the 'Old Secretariat' in Old Delhi a decade before the new capital was inaugurated in 1931. Many employees were brought in from various parts of British India, including the Bengal Presidency and the Madras Presidency. As a result, housing for them was built in the Gole Market area.
The Delhi Legislative Assembly now meets in the Old Secretariat Building. The nearby Parliament House was built much later and thus did not follow the Rajpath axis. Parliament House construction began in 1921, and the building was dedicated in 1927.
The Central Secretariat station of the Delhi Metro now serves the area.
