Why didn't Baldeo run awey when he saw the tiger coming towards him ?how did he face the tiger ?

The axehead of pure steel, thin but ringing true like a bell, had been made by his father over a charcoal fire. This axe was part of himself.

Baldeo doesn't run when he saw the tiger because he thinks the flight (escape) was useless and meaningless with the tiger.
Baldeo was ready to attack the tiger with the axe which was given to him by his father. Baldeo bravely brought down the axe into the tiger's shoulder. He wanted to attack again with the axe but unfortunately, the axe stuck strongly in the tiger's shoulder. Baldeo became weaponless. The tiger tore his body with its mighty paws. Baldeo died.
