China did not grant trading rights to British because
1) they were very strict with their laws and everyone had to agree with them
2) they were scared that maybe their country will go under British rule
3) so they allowed only one place for trading for British. they are not allowed to come inside china except that trading centre
4) China got so much money as it was trading but British was unhappy it wanted China's resources at cheap rates
5) British cleverly gave opium to some China people and they were in a trap and slowly without knowing only China was under British
