Gandhi was a strategist and clearly understood the nature and the character of the mass movement against the British. He said that no violent mass movement could survive for long as the capacity of the masses to sacrifice is limited.

Explanation:

  • Gandhi also believed that use of violence or forces to the win the cause as cowardice.
  • It is also a known fact that during those times any violent or forceful movement could be easily crushed by the British government in India due to its enormous man and money power.
  • Therefore, Gandhi gave to the world a new weapon in the form of Satyagraha, to fight against any kind of injustice.
  • Satyagraha was based on the twin principle of truth and non – violence and was the superior moral force which could bring a change in the heart of the tyrant i.e. the British.
