In 1866,Dr.Dietrich Brandis a German forest officer was appointed as the first inspector general of forest in India. He was appointed by the British to improve the land conditions in India.

the first Inspector General of forests in india was Dr Dietrich Brandis. he was a German forest officer.He was the man who divided the forests into “reserved”, “protected” & “village forests”.
basically he was responsible for large scale displacement of tribes in India.
He was responsible for a large scale deforestation in india., as all the good trees were cut for britishers to build railway sleepers & ships.
