Digestion by enzymes is a chemical reaction because:

  • Enzymes are tiny proteins that are found everywhere in the body and boost up chemical reactions in our bodies.
  • These proteins turn nutrients into substances that our digestive tract can absorb.
  • Different nutrients are targeted by different enzymes as :

           -  Sucrase breaks down a sugar.

           -  Protease works mainly on proteins.

           -  Lipase deals with fats.

  • Digestion is a combination of chemical reactions and procedures up to waste disposal.
  • They start the digestion process from the very beginning in the mouth,  by chewing and beginning the chemical transformation of the food.
