\huge\mathfrak\purple{Hello,}

\huge\underline{Answer:}

Chlorine is a Halogen. Silver ions form insoluble products with halide ions (eg. The Chloride ion). The sample solution is first acidified by HNO3(aq) before adding AgNO3(aq) in order to remove any carbonate or hydroxide impurities that might react with the AgNO3(aq) and form an unwanted precipitate.

Hope\:it\:helps!
