The dispersion occurs in prism but not in glass slab because of the geometric design. In a slab, the opposite sides are parallel to each other whereas in the case of the prism, the sides are not parallel to each other. ... They travel a very small distance in the glass slab to meet the second interface

In a prism, does the dispersion of light occur at the first face of the prism, or does it occur due to the second non-parallel surface of the prism?

Dispersion of light takes place at the first face of the prism but the second non parallel face also plays an important role in this phenomenon.

Although the emerging ray of light is displaced slightly from the entering ray, it travels in the same direction as the incoming ray and all wavelengths that separated at the first interface are re-combined.
