why direct democracy is obsolete today?

Direct democracy is far from obsolete people in small to medium groups use it everyday where should we so what should we do .I know let,s suggest some option and vote on them is an easy and obvious process that works well for many situations. the problem with direct democracy is that it doesn't scale well . when the head count gets up into the thousands or millions ,spread out across the land ,it's terribly impractical to gather everyone every time you want to make a decision
