Direct democracy is one where all decisions, policies and laws are made by people itself with consensus, and it may be best form of government theoretically but practically it is pain in the *ss (forgive me).
We are here talking about India, a population of 130 crores or so, not Vatican City, or Tuvalu or San Marino.
To exercise a direct democracy first of all, a mass gathering is needed so that everyone can contribute in nation building process, everyone can express their opinion which is the essence of democracy. But where is the place to gather so many people??? actually nowhere in the Country.
We all are well aware of the trouble that Election Commission and security forces goes through once in a five year during ELECTION. People who do not cast their vote once in 5 years will they be able to spare their time even often.
Suppose, if we find a place for everyone to gather, will it be possible to manage such a big crowd? What about arrangements, who’ll do that ? also the cost factor would be so high that current Parliamentary form of Govt. will seem to be running free of cost.
Let us forget all as it is the best form of government we will be ready to sacrifice all our time, money and resources, but when the meeting starts just imagine 130 crore ideas, 130 crore different perspectives, okay lets narrow it down, we assume few hundred or thousand people have similar ideas, still about 13 lakh to 1.3 crore ideas. Who will analyse all those ideas, will there ever be consensus ???
