Answer:
The Marathas, right from the beginning, focused on reducing the Mughal influence. With the Aurangzeb ascending to the Mughal throne, the avarice for expansion and consolidation of the Mughal Empire went wild. Aurangzeb wanted to expand the Mughal frontiers beyond the Deccan (the Maratha region). His constant actions and invasions perturbed the Marathas. As a result of this growing unrest, the Marathas went rogue and regularly invaded the Mughal settlements/ camps. The Maratha leaders used Guerrilla Warfare technique to reduce the Mughal influence. Therefore, by the 1720s, they seized Malwa and Gujarat from the Mughals. By the 1730s, the Maratha king became the overlord of the entire Deccan peninsula.
Hope, this helps.
