why distance cannot be negative and displacement can be negative

Distance is a scalar quantity while displacement is a vector quantity in vector quantity direction is fixed if we move in a specific direction and return then displacement decreases and if we move more then it will be negative

not displacement also not be negative . because displacement is a distance from a point to another point. (staring point and ending point)

if in a circular path the starting point is the same of ending point in which case the displacement is zero
but distance Is not zero.
displacement also can't be negative.
