Hello...,

DNA contains information for the inheritance of characteristics from parents to the offsprings. Hence, DNA copying is an essential feature of the process of reproduction .During copying each DNA molecule gives rise to two DNA molecules which are identical to each other as well as the to the parent molecule.
However, DNA copying mechanism is not absolutely accurate, and the resultant errors are the source of variations among organisms. Each new variation in a DNA copy is passed on to the offsprings and create new combinations of variants which may be useful for ensuring the survival of the species.

Hope this will help you ....
