Why do a heavier and a lighter object when dropped from a same height fall at the same rate?

It cannot happen as there is air in the surroundings it can happen only when the air ressictence is reduced or the air is sucked up

Yes heavier and a lighter object when dropped from a same height fall at the same rate when there is no air resistance. This has nothing to do with the gravity. Gravitational force is same on all the bodies with any mass. Newton’s second law of motion is applicable to the free fall.  

Newton’s second law states that the acceleration dependent upon the net force acting and the mass.
