This is because they can only lose H+ ions in aqueous solutions .....that they can only get from water.
Hence acids didn't show their Acidic nature in absence of water .

acids don't show acidic behaviour in the absence of water because acids need (H+ ions ) to show acidic behaviour.It is only the hydrogen ions that are responsible for the acidic behaviour, acids don't dissociate to produce h+ ions in absence of water
