The acidic behaviour of acid is due to the presence of hydrogen ions. Theacids will not show its acidic behaviour in the absence of water, thisis because the acids produce hydrogen ions only in the presence of water.

Heya user..!!

Here is your answer..!!

_________________________________________________________________

  • It is because acids do not dissociate into ions in absence of water.

  • Bur when an acid is dissolved in water, it forms hydrogen ions and hence , shows acidic behaviour.

  • Example :

                      dissolve in water.

HCL ( g)    -----------------------------------------> H⁺( aq ) + Cl⁻ ( aq ).
