Answer:
Because of absence of Hydrogen (H+)ions.
- Acids are compounds that releases H+ ions.
Acids are compounds that releases H+ ions. Acids do not show acidic behaviour in the absence of water because the disassociation of H+ (Hydrogen) ions from an acid takes place only in presence of water molecules. The hydrogen ions are responsible for the acidic behaviour of the acids. Thus, the acidic behaviour of any acid is possible only in the presence of water.
- As water is an universal solvent, which means most substance is soluble in it. Thus, most substance can disassociate itself in water.
