Why do Acids not Show acidic behaviour in Absence of water?

the acidic behaviour of a substance is due to the presence of h + ions as as I do not associate to produce h + ions in the absence of water so they do not show acidic behaviour

it requires ions . which is present in water to flow of H+ ions
