When alkali metals are dissolved in liquid ammonia they form ammoniated cation and ammoniated electron ....the ammoniated electron absorbs energy from the visible region and imparts blue colour to the solution

Alkali metals dissolve in liquid ammonia giving deep blue solutions which are conducting in nature. Theblue colour of the solution is due to ammoniated electrons which absorb energy in the visible region of light.
