Androecium is the male part of a flower and gynoecium is the female part of a flower.Androecium and gynoecium of a flower mature at different times so that self pollination can be avoided.
- In the autogamy method of self pollination , pollen grains are transferred to the stigma of the same flower.
- In Deitonogamy, pollen grains from anther of one flower get transferred to stigma of another flower in the same flowering plant.

in order to prevent Self pollination ,androceium and gynoceium of the same flower mature at different times . so in such flowers only cross pollination is possible .and also the offsprings produced by cross pollination have greater genetic variability than offsprings produced by self pollination
