Animals need more energy because they have to perform more metabolic activities but in case of plants they do not have to perform much functions as compared to animals. Animals also perform locomotion which consumes a large amount of energy.

Animals get their food from plants. Animals are heterotrophic organisms which obtains food from autotrophic animals like plants. They are depended upon plants directly or indirectly. Plants are autotrophic organisms, they synthesis their own food. They use carbon dioxide from atmosphere, and water through roots in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll to give glucose and oxygen with some metabolic water. Plants need carbon dioxide for carbon fixation to form glucose and water for photolyting it and to get hydrogen and oxygen from which oxygen is released and hydrogen is used for formation of NADPH(Nicotinamide Dinucleotide Adenine Diphosphate).

In simple words we can say that animals consume plants and plants perform photosynthesis to create food which is stored in the form of fruits in root etc.

The reaction which takes place during photosynthesis is as follows:-

CO₂+H₂0→C₆H₁₂O₆+O₂+H₂O

If we look towards the food chain for animals we get that
