Respiratory pigments are required in large or multi cellular organsim because many cells are not on the surface of the body and cannot respire. To supply them proper oxygen so that they can release energy, respiration system is there is large organism. The pigment that carries oxygen in humans is hemoglobin and it is situated in RBC or blood.

Hope it helps!!!!
