Answer!

Measuring in light-years also allows astronomers to determine how far back in time they are viewing. Because light takes time to travel to our eyes, everything we view in the night sky has already happened. In other words, when you observe something 1 light-year away, you see it as it appeared exactly one year ago.

Answer:

Astronomers use light year to measure the distance between the planets because when we measure the distance between the planets kilometre is a very small unit so we have to use some bigger unit, if tense 1 kilometre is said to be in centimetres then it would not be easy to say so we use kilometre , and astronomers use light year because light travels very fast so it covers so much distance . 1 light year equals to 9.461 × 10000000000000 km.
