Why do atoms of an element have different mass numbers?

The number of neutrons can vary to produce isotopes, which are atoms of the same element that have different numbers of neutrons. The number of electrons can also be different in atoms of the same element, thus producing ions.

because in atoms if atomic numbers are same but numbers of neutrons in nucleas are different so they make their mass different  as you know every neutron have mass that will be counted in atomic mass
