Why do buildings have wide foundations?

so that the pressure of the building is distributed on the land in a n increase surface area which results in lower pressure on the foundation. Practically so that the building does not break fast .

so that the pressure ,force , atmospheric pressure should be distributed properly and how much high the building would be much disturbance should not happen
