Why do cats and dogs produce several young ones?

Cats and dogs have much shorter lifespan than human, but their infant mortality is high, so they need to produce more offspring.

This is because the survival chances of their young ones are very limited in the environment. Therefore to increase the chances of the continuity of the species, these animals produces young ones in large numbers so as to increase the chances of survival of the animal.

sammy96899: this should also b added that they produce several young ones bcos some of them may die due to some disease and some may die in the mothers womb. so they insure to produce their young ones in a large no.
