This is because the survival chances of their young ones are very limited in the environment. Therefore to increase the chances of the continuity of the species, these animals produces young ones in large numbers so as to increase the chances of survival of the animal.

In case of humans only one cell is produced at a time and one sperm fuses with this egg cell, resulting in the formation of zygote . ... But in case of dogs and cats , many sperms fuse with many eggs resulting in the production of several puppies and kittens.
